This gallery investigates the Portuguese lighthouses capable of constituting a synthesis of the various historiographic, geographic and iconographic studies on these architectures and programs.

We are interested in creating several publications in original books, with a small cartographic map attached and combining different types of image and text, capable of communicating the cultural context and the original architectural characteristics of these buildings, as well as to know the history that many of these architectures carry with you. For example, identify and show certain constructive elements that have been added over time to these lighthouses, making known, where possible through ancient texts and images - photography and architectural drawings - precedents, constructive techniques and cultural identity of locality where they were built.

This work will help, on the one hand, the recognition of the importance of lighthouses as vernacular architecture and significant cultural and patrimonial heritage for Portugal, as well as for its maritime history. On the other hand, contribute to give a new visibility and awareness on these monuments, allowing their integration and active dissemination in the strategies of tourism and cultural development in Portugal.

The objective is to preserve as a memory and to make known the cultural and patrimonial richness of the architecture of Portuguese Lighthouses both nationally and internationally and draw the attention of the various publics to the universe of Portuguese lighthouses including in each of the publications two maps in Annex: a map of the lighthouse of this publication and a general map of Portugal indicating the location and name of all the remaining lighthouses, pointing out those that are most in need of rehabilitation and reactivation and thus contribute to this by sensitizing and disseminating to different audiences and appealed to these unique architectures of our Portuguese coast.
